I sometimes wonder what life would be like if God hadn’t given me the gift of hearing. What if it was just an endless hum that greeted me each morning, instead of the chirping of the birds or the rustling of my curtains against the gentle morning breeze. Would everything around me still seem as beautiful as they do now.
What if this world had no sound? What if the vibrations of a guitar string elicited little change to that static hum in your ear. What if the reverberations of a drum never merged with the thumping of your heart. What if there were no sound of violins (in your head at least) when she says “Yes” and embraces you? How do you deal with the silence after once experiencing the joy of sound?
But even with a million sounds, it is perhaps the silence that wields the power. Somebody’s silence is sometimes the loudest voice in the room. And sometimes Silence is the only way, to listen to your heart. And sometimes Silence is the best way to tell them how much you love. And maybe in those moments, you will hear people talking without speaking; within the Sound of Silence.
